Stonehaven Town Partnership wishes to engage with the young people of the town to involve them in the development of the Town Hall as a community asset. To this end, we have outlined below our ideas on how the competition will function. The aim is to look at the past and future of the town hall building.
Timescale Issue beginning of February. Completion 30th March Judging:Every individual school should make the initial judgement before submitting two entries from each category entered.
Primary 1 to 3 Primary 4 to 7 Secondary1 to 3 Secondary 4 to 6
These final entries will be judged by the directors of STP and a final winner will be announced for each age group and a prize awarded.
It is hoped to use the winning entries (and others deemed worthy) for a display in the town hall when the Hall becomes a Trust.
Topics
The History of the Town Hall Examine the history of the Town Hall from inception. Investigate various entertainers who have played at the Town Hall eg Dr Bodie, Billy Connelly, The Alexander Brothers, Harry Lauder, Johnnie Mearns Concert Party What has the Town Hall been used for in the past. Who used it and what for. Eg. dances, weddings, church socials, whist drives, annual Police Ball and Farmers Ball Fund raising events during the War etc. (Most of this information came from Jimmy Murdoch.) Resources When investigating this project we found that there were not many accessible resources. We have therefore provided on our websitewww.stonehaventownpartnership.org some resources we have found. We are putting out an appeal via The Leader for any information about the Town Hall throughout the years. There is also an opportunity to use oral history again, involving the community Jimmy Murdoch (95) is happy to help. What do you think the Town Hall Buildings should look like? Pupils can use their imagination to describe their future vision of the Town Hall building. This can be a written piece, artist impression or computer graphics. Pupils can put more practical/factual proposals forward for consideration. Again this can be a written piece, artist impression, computer graphics and photography.
Remember that the Town Hall building includes; the main hall, upper hall, council chambers, stage and various small meeting rooms.
Resources Conservation Plan - Stonehaven Town Hall. Virtual tours are available online and accompanied tours of the Town Hall building can be arranged. *Conservation Plan Stonehaven Town Hall. Logo We are looking for a logo which can be used to identify the Town Hall Project. This can be a fun character for children to identify with, or a more sophisticated graphic image that can be used for the promotion of the Town Hall. An example of this is the Horizon Project |
