The Honours Three The Saving of The Scottish Regalia
Location: Kinneff Old Church
Date: Friday 31st July 2009
Time: 7.30pm
Details: The 31st of July will be an important date in the history of Kinneff Old Church. An Evening of Entertainment has been arranged in Kinneff Old Church by the Trustees of this historic Scottish Kirk. In 1651 after the execution of Charles1 the Scottish Regalia were removed to the fortified castle of Dunnottar to be protected from the clutches of the marauding Oliver Cromwell. If he had managed to capture and destroy the Regalia, Scotlands future would have changed forever. The Old Church is where the Scottish Crown Jewels were kept safely hidden for 9 years by the minister the Reverend James Grainger and his wife Christian.
The story of how the Graingers devised and carried out a plan to smuggle the Scottish Regalia out of Dunnottar Castle and hide them in Kinneff Old Church will be told in the play The Honours Three which will be performed by members of Stonehavens Ury Players. In this year of Homecoming the Trustees are delighted to have been able to secure the following performers The Trybe; Alex Green & Madeline Miller, Kenneth Petrie and Dave Ramsay who will all add a truly Scottish atmosphere to a very special evening.
